After several hours and help from Mrs. Honeycutt's daughters, our classroom library is organized by genre. This is something that we have wanted to do for a while, but we are both addicted to books so this undertaking was a little daunting. We are so excited and feel the library is so much more inviting for the students. (Anyone who was in school today may have noticed that the air conditioning was not working, so moving all of these books and bookcases was an especially sweaty adventure.)
Last year this table was used solely for teacher use and, even though Mrs. Shaffer Tweeted this week about not having a teacher desk, we really did have a teacher desk - students rarely used this space and we often spent a little too much time at this table while students were working. Well, that is over! We officially do not have a teacher desk! There is a table in the corner with our teacher supplies and we are storing "paperwork" in a filing cabinet, but we will be using all tables, seating and spaces around the room for learning, discussion and collaboration. We are very excited for the possibilities this small "removal" holds and plan to make the most of it!
#writer'scraft is the title of one of our bulletin boards. We are challenging our students to find excerpts from books they are reading that impress them. We will be talking about how author's go through the writing process and how choosing just the right words is so important to creating meaning for the reader. on this bulletin board students will share with our classroom community great examples writing. We are beyond excited for the students to enter our classroom tomorrow! We are devoted to a wonderful year full of authentic reading, writing, speaking and listening experiences! |
